This stone carving workshop, held in beautiful Little Moreton Hall, is a chance for budding sculptors create your own stunning carving out of sandstone or limestone, and benefit from an experienced teacher’s advice and encouragement.
The art of stone carving dates back hundreds of thousands of years. The material’s durability means that many early artworks still survive – the lasting legacy of ancient cultures around the world. During the one day course, you’ll learn to properly handle the tools of the trade, which haven’t really changed much since antiquity. Using a mallet and chisel, you’ll carve a design from a block of sandstone or limestone. If it’s your first time, you needn’t worry! You’ll receive individual attention and step-by-step guidance from your friendly instructor. The day runs from 11am - 5pm. Light refreshments are available throughout, and you’re welcome to enjoy lunch in the onsite café or bring your own. All materials and tools are provided, and you’ll get to take home your hand carved souvenir at the end of the course.
